More than a window
Back glass usually does more than let you see behind you. Many rear windshields carry defroster lines, and depending on the vehicle, a radio antenna, a rear wiper or the third brake light. When we replace back glass, the replacement needs the same features, which is why your year, make and model matter.
Why back glass shatters
Like most side windows, back glass is usually tempered, so when it breaks it breaks all at once into small pieces. Common causes are an impact, a hatch or trunk slammed hard, stress in the glass, and break-ins. Because tempered glass cannot be repaired, a broken rear windshield has to be replaced, and the sooner the better: an open back window lets in rain and leaves the car unsecured.
Until it is replaced
- Remove loose glass carefully, wearing gloves; it often collects in the cargo area and seats.
- Tape plastic sheeting over the opening to keep out the rain.
- Do not slam the hatch or trunk, and skip the car wash.
- Call (425) 406-4691 with your year, make and model.
